RE: AIS today

Hi

Some had said they did not receive an email

NO AIS TODAY BECAUSE of POTENTIAL SNOW

RE: AIS Tomorrow

All

I have heard that in the DC Metro area snow may start in the morning between 7 and 9:00 and we may get up to a “paltry” 2 to 4 inches.

With caution being primary consideration for the safety of “excited kids and sleepy parents”, I am cancelling the sessions tomorrow.

PLEASE DO NOT come to the site.

We still are planning for a session next Saturday. Hopefully the snow will hold off.

Please have lots of fun-the first snow always is fun to play in!!

I will send the teachers a separate note.

Ann-Please inform the lady from Virginia and ask them if they can pick a date sometime in January.

I feel bad for those Yoga practitioners missing a “sizzling” yoga session. I am sure next week it will have double the “intensity and excitement” and a difficulty level 0f - -up to the teacherJ

Enjoy your weekend.

For those interested, JHU cancelled their session.

Raj

I WAS TO SEND THIS OUT next WEEK-But—

For those of you that have told me that you will be away for a number of reasons, I understand. You HAVE to do what you HAVE to do.

FYI-Attendance is a criterion considered for admission into the next session.

If your name is NOT on the roster or the sheet at the Security desk, we will write them in

The roster is at : AIS - LM - LEIDOS ROSTER

It is also on the AIS - LM Blog

TEACHERS:

1.       Some of you volunteered to teach, some or on the fence and some are waiting to be asked. For those who volunteered, please follow up-pick a Saturday and send me an email with your topic. For the rest, your turn is coming - -!!

·        Please fill in a brief survey of your Rocket Launch Experience: https://goo.gl/forms/l5HfOd6oIWqhNo0n1

Some of you expressed a desire to restart the Yoga sessions we used to have the last few years. Our Yoga Guru has kindly consented to lead you through the limbering, stretching, bending process.

AIS-THIS SATURDAY-ROCKET LAUNCHING

All

PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR SOME CHANGE IN DIRECTIONS-I GAVE YOU!!!!

See NOTES FROM Ed Celarier, the Launch Director

The weather forecast for Saturday looks quite good, and we are hoping for another successful AIS Rocket Launch event.

There are some other things going on at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds this weekend, so I would like you to advise your families that they should come in on either Perry Parkway or Dalamar Street (by the old Golden Bull restaurant--some people know that landmark).  They should NOT try to come in via Chestnut St.

We will need to manage the parking a little more this year, but with enough volunteers, that should be easy to do.

I would like for the volunteers to arrive around 8:30.

It will take us about a half hour to set up, so anyone who's not volunteering should show up starting at 9:00.  Based on last year's participation levels, I don't think it will be necessary to stagger the arrivals by site this year.

Conversely, any parents who show up earlier will get put to work as "volunteers."

I As THEY say, “ THE BEST LAID PLANS OF MEN & MICE ----“”

Cheers

Raj

AIS Week Four-11/4-ROCKET LAUNCHING

All

A FEW NOTES

Every week starting from Nov 11 we will be taking attendance of the children. We have created a roster for the children. Please go through it and have your child remember their roll number which will be used for attendance.

The roster is at : AIS - LM - LEIDOS ROSTER

It is also on the AIS - LM Blog

IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ

Every week, we try our best to have teachers offering a variety of sessions. Some of these are parents-some come because we ask them to and love sharing their knowledge.

All these folks put in the time and effort preparing to make it fun for your children.

·         I CAN understand a few of you not being able to make it every week due to other activities. I am hoping that, since you all have registered, you will make your best effort to turn up every week.

·         Some believe they can drop their children off and pick them up-NOT Acceptable-I am beginning to know whom you are and PLEASE stay-the rest of us  enjoy your company and learn from your varied backgrounds and expertise.

·         A lot of effort has gone into securing the site and conducting these sessions

·         I am hoping that the reduced attendance last week was an anomaly-we had disappointed teachersJ

·         If there is a lack of interest, I can either:

o   reduce the number of teachers

o   move those interested to another site and disband this site OR

o   cancel the session at this site altogether.

·         All drastic steps which I never have done OR hope NOT to do.

THIS WEEK

We will be launching rockets (home-made and the one you hopefully put together from the kit) at the MONTGOMERY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS.

ON 355 turn into CHESTNUT STREET and before thr Railway Tracks turn into the fairgrounds area. There are other ways to get there-from Perry Parkway etc.

WE WILL start by 9:00 AM-please get there by 8:45 AM.

See some requests below form Ed Celarier-the launch director-PLEASE SEND ME your names as requested below

*******************************************************************************************************************************************

We need commitments from parents to help out on site, from each of our AIS class sites.

We need parents to cover the following stations and responsibilities

(1) Manage automobile traffic & parking.

(2) Rocket inspection station (run through a checklist before students can get an engine)

(3) Rocket engine provisioning (load engine & fuse)

(4) Rocket repair (assist with repairs to rockets to get them through the inspection)

(5) Launchpad operations/safety

(6) Clean-up crew.

Some of these only need one person at a time (1,3)  Others will work better with 2-4 per station (2,4).  Launchpad operations probably should have one per pad.  And cleanup?  You can never have enough!

The launch is scheduled for 9:00 to around 12:00 on Saturday, November 4.

I ask that, after next week, you forward me a list of parent volunteers and their preferences for stations to work.  (I may ask some parents to take different assignments, if I have to.)  I don't need contact information.  I just need enough to get an idea of the numbers.

If Possible TRY to get to the site by 8:45 TO 8:50 AM-I HAVE A FEW ANNOUNCEMENTS TO MAKE, YOUR TEACHERS NEED ALL THE TIME THEY CAN.

I AM TOLD BY DR. K THAT A LITTLE MORE THAN A FEW OF YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE PROJECT FORMS. PLEASE HURRY UP AND DO SO.

THE PUROSE OF ENCOURAGING YOUR CHILD TO WORK AND COMPLETE A PROJECT, IS FROM OUR POINT OF VIEW, JUST THAT-TO MAKE THEM UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO WORK N A PROJECT, WHAT IT TAKES TO COMPLETE A PROJECT, HOW TO GO ABOUT OBTAINING INFORMATION AND HOW TO PUT THEM TOGETHER IN A LOGICAL MANNER AND PRESENT PUBLICLY AND ANSWER QUESTIONS, AND FEEL  A SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT.

SO GUIDE THEM, HELP THEM, ENCOURAGE THEM, SPEND SOME TIMEWITH THEM TO GET IT ACCOMPLISHED.

WE HAVE FIVE GREAT TOPICS FOR YOU:
