RE: AIS Week Five-11/11

All

PLEASE READ ENTIRELY.

ATTENDANCE:

Starting this we will be recording attendance of the children. We have created a roster for the children. Please go through it and have your child remember their roll number which will be used for attendance.

For those of you that have told me that you will be away for a number of reasons, I understand. You HAVE to do what you HAVE to do.

FYI-Attendance is a criterion considered for admission into the next session.

If your name is NOT on the roster or the sheet at the Security desk, we will write them in

The roster is at : AIS - LM - LEIDOS ROSTER

It is also on the AIS - LM Blog

TEACHERS:

1.       Some of you volunteered to teach, some or on the fence and some are waiting to be asked. For those who volunteered, please follow up-pick a Saturday and send me an email with your topic. For the rest, your turn is coming - -!!

2.       Please understand-anything you buy “FOR THE CLASS” will be reimbursed. Please provide receipts-preferably scanned-if possible.

3.       Supplies like scissors, glue sticks, pencils, and rubber bands are available. Please let me know a couple of days ahead so that I can bring them from the other building.

 ROCKET LAUNCHING

·        Some of the rockets did not soar high to the moon-some went high-some took off at an angle and crash landed, some did the figure of eight and one almost hit my carJ

·         WE would like you to fill out a BRIEF SURVEY (BY FRIDAY PLEASE) so that we can formulate a few ideas on why the failures happened. Some are obvious-fins loose, engine casing not flush, no arresters, tilting rockets etc.

·        Please fill in a brief survey of your Rocket Launch Experience: https://goo.gl/forms/l5HfOd6oIWqhNo0n1

YOGA

Some of you expressed a desire to restart the Yoga sessions we used to have the last few years. Our Yoga Guru has kindly consented to lead you through the limbering, stretching, bending process.

As some of you may have seen, we have a cozy place with great “industrial carpeting” available in the same area. PLEASE BRING a YOGA MAT with you and possibly a belt and a block if interested in participating

For your own health wellness, we request you desist from eating for about 2 hours prior to participating in Yoga-if possible.

We have four great teaching sessions and one “exercise” session for you.

1.    Genetics and inheritance –What is genetics and what is inheritance (not money?); Why do you look like your parents?  Some do and some don’t-why not?  : Learn what is heredity and genetics and why you resemble your mom and dad in many ways but are still different from them in some ways.  Learn what is DNA and what it has to do with all this.

2.       Balloon Cars: Do Balloons pull the Cars OR Cars pull the Balloons? Do the cars fly? Learn all about PHYSICS- mass, friction, and momentum-through these “balloon cars” & AMAZE your friends

3.       Light: What is it? How is it produced? How many types of light we use? What it is most efficient way to produce it? Where do we use Light? Do we REALLY NEED LIGHT? Can you see in the Dark-Can your EYES ADJUST? HOW DO YOUR EYES ADJUST TO DIFFERENT SHADES of Light?

4.     MYSTERY CHEMISTRY Topic; From representatives of AMGEN-ably sponsored By Ann-They normally do a couple of great interactive experiments.

5.     YOGA: For those of you interested. If there are other adults in your house interested, please bring them-remember Mats though-
