Hi,

  • AIS PARENT's DAY is on Match 11th to be held at Montgomery College, Germantown Campus.
    • For Non-Reigstered students, March 4th at Lockheed
    • Submission Due Date - Sunday Feb 19
  • All students are expected to participate and must fill in the following form to register project
  • Parent's day is a Program where children from ALL the sites convene to present projects they have been working on  from January
  • Projects presentations last from about 5 to 15 minutes-Average presentations so far have lasted about 10 minutes for our site kids.
  • Your children either perform an experiment, read up on some topic and write things down (PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM NOT TO COPY VERBATIM FROM GOOGLE or OTHER SITES) in a reasonably cogent order.
  • Some helpful resources for Projects:
  • Prepare Presentations in Power Point Slides ONLY. PLEASE Keep it simple (no fancy graphics). Need not bring Models to the presentations.
  • If they want to they can work with a sibling or friend (from LM or other sites)
  • As Parents and Guardians, you are requested NOT to do their presentations for them BUT ENCOURAGED to guide them-give tips/ideas. Your kids ARE smart-they are lots more capable than they are given credit for!!

After reading this e.mail and going through the material, if you still have questions, please let me or Raj know.

HOPE YOU –PARENTS-WORKED WITH YOUR CHILDREN TO THINK OF A TOPIC THEY WOULD DO A PROJECT ON!! (IF NOT PLEASE DO)-As a reminder, some details below.

PARENTS' DAY PROJECTS:

·         On Parent's Day your children will present a project they work on from January to a small Peer Group of children.

·         Projects can be theoretical (read some literature and present) or experiments.

·         Concepts should be SIMPLE-something they can do with guidance and speak to.

·         PURPOSE is to make them understand the effort it needs to put a (reasonably) cogent presentation from material they collect. PARENTAL GUIDANCE & HELP is FINE-PLEASE DO NOT DO IT FOR THEM-DEFEATS the PURPOSE!!

·         Each Project should have hypothesis, Body of work, a conclusion (AND a sentence or two on why the conclusion matches or does not with the hypothesis-IN THEIR OWN WORDS.)

·         DR. K will provide a list of topics Children used over the past few years. PLEASE work with your CHHILDREN to GAUGE their Interest and IDEAS and work WITH THEM to Bring to Fruition.

·         We Would LIKE ALL CHILDREN to do a Project-PREFER that they DO NOT REPEAT what they do IN School for the SCIENCE FAIR/SCIENCE DAY etc.

Cheers

Raj
