RE: AIS This Saturday 1/6/2018

All

There is a slight change in the topics for this week.

Normally I would not send an email-but this is something some kids wanted to but were not able to previously.

I was told that I cannot have fun this week-hence the “Fun with genetics” is postponed. Instead we have Frog dissection

See you all Saturday

Cheers

Raj

ALL

PLEASE READ THROUGH-A FEW TOPICS ARE INCLUDED

1.      Projects:

Ø  Every year, during Parent’s Day-the last session-all children, registered with AIS, will present their projects at Montgomery College. It is normally the first or second Saturday in March-between 9:00 and 11:30-ish. Presentation end typically by 10:30 and we normally have a guest speaker after.

Ø  If you have not received the list of projects the children have done over the years-you will.

Ø  The intent is to make the child learn, understand and become aware of what it takes to put stuff together-think of an idea, get the necessary material, do an experiment or research, write it up and present to a small peer group.-what adults typically do.

Ø  The projects typically consist of a hypothesis, a “body” wherein what was done is described and a conclusion. The conclusion either may OR may not match the hypothesis. If known, a reason can/should be provided.

Ø  The presentation should last for a maximum of 10 to 12 minutes-a maximum of 8 to 10 slides and any questions thereafter.

Ø  Your child will receive a certificate once the presentations are done.

Ø  As parents, please help them-the more they do the better it is-discuss what topics they like –arrive (jointly) at a topic (that can be reasonably done), ask them to write it up and practice the presentation. This is a test of your “parental skills” as well as an encouragement and awareness to your childrenJ

We will discuss more about this in the next few weeks.

I had sent out a phone number link-a few weeks ago-hope you all filled it up-this is in case we have to cancel due to heavy snow. The link is:
