Welcome to AIS Session of 2014-15

All

Greetings from the Lockheed Martin Adventure in Science Site Manager.

This is my welcome to you all. Not sure about you all –but I am very excited about the upcoming sessions starting October 11.

A few administrative items:

1.      If you have not paid till now, please do posthaste.
2.      For questions, please contact alga at algapie@umd.edu. She will have answers for you. If she does not, ask me and I will see if I can help.
3.      Hope all of you are coming to the “new” Parent Orientation session on September 17-I think.
4.      I have copied the Primary and secondary e-mails you provided for the distribution list. If any of you want to be removed or someone else to be added, please let me know. Also, if someone you know who has been admitted to LM is not on the list, please let them know and ask them to send me an e-mail.
5.      Classes generally begin at 9:00 and I will ask you to show up between 8:30 and 8:45 AM-on Saturdays of course!!
6.      Address is 9231 Corporate Boulevard, Rockville MD 20850 (just off Shady Grove Road)
7.      One BIG request-since this is a voluntary program, we need teachers –to share their hobbies, experience, interests, knowledge with the children and other parents. PLEASE think about what you can do. I will probably need up to 4 teachers per session.
8.      After the orientation, I will be having a brief planning session with interested parents-anyone having ideas please let me know. Depending on the size of the group, we can pick a spot to meet.

Enjoy the last bit of Summer.

Cheers
Raj

These women challenged the traditional expectations of their time. They possessed strong positive character traits and sought creative solutions to their problems. In Forging Frontiers, Kate Campbell Stevenson brings to life excellent examples of how women from the past provide stepping-stones for overcoming today's barriers and developing tomorrow's possibilities.

AIS march 1st.

Folks

We have a very busy Saturday –chock full of activities in order that we end on time. I will start promptly by 8:45 AM. You can come in any time after 8:00 AM.

ü  One of the Lockheed Martin program folks, very excited by the program, wants to take pictures of all of you. This will be only for LM internal use—just to show how great you all are!! If someone DOES NOT WANT TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED, please LET US KNOW SATURDAY MORNING!!

ü  ALL PARENTS are requested to Attend-there are Moms and dads I have not seen all year-would love to AT LEAST ONCE –PLEASE COME

ü  If someone has not paid Danielle for the party-PLEASE REMEMBER to do so.

AGENDA:

1.      Brief words on Pictures-Rhonda Hewitt (4 minutes!!)

2.      Brief presentation by Ron Gird on Citizen Science (6 minutes)-How to set up a weather Station at home. We will have a sign in sheet for you to sign in-no cost, no pressure!!

3.      Brief presentation by Dr.TANGIRALA (6 minutes) –on a field trip of a real-time ambient air quality monitoring station in DC on a warm day in Spring/Summer. Please think about if a day during Spring Break will work or on one of the MCPS holidays (if not cancelled). We will have a sign in sheet for you to sign in. Would also need a Volunteer to coordinate this-one of the Parents-if not I WILL PICK!!

4.      I believe there are 4 kids whose parents have told me they are going to present this Saturday(about 8 minutes eachapproximately) as they cannot on March 8th They are:

a.      Kruthik Kalidas

b.     Divya Mathur

c.      Nivitha Paranthaman

d.     Varun Manoj Khilnani

·        Parents of these kids-Please bring your presentation on a USB (thumb drive) and have a paper copy or two (or more if you need) of the presentation-in case my laptop/projector combo does not work (and there is some system maintenance planned for the morning)

·        If someone else has a projector-please bring so that we can have 2 kids going at the same time-since we are time constrained.

·        These kids will be awarded their certificates.

5.      Parent’s day and registration for next year info (3 minutes!)

6.      Repeat info about form 1260, who cannot present at NIST, NEED for badges etc.

7.      Three presentations by three wonderful teachers (naturally!!)-All the teachers have promised a “Memorable” presentation

a.      All about pollution

b.      Simple Machines

c.      Surface Tension (continuation of the Soap presentation)
